At the 12th World Urban Forum (#WUF12), the Urban Transitions Mission will lead and partner in a series of high-impact events dedicated to accelerating urban climate action. From November 5-8, UTM sessions will underscore the critical role of cities in tackling climate challenges, provide hands-on learning experiences, mobilize decision-makers at all levels to prioritize climate-neutral and net-zero pathways through clean energy solutions and systemic innovation across sectors and urban governance. 📍 November 5, 2024, 13:00 – 14:30 EEST: Climate-neutral and smart cities – Sparking global system transformation locally
This interactive networking event will explore ‘System Demonstrators’—a new instrument to scale system transformation in cities and advance climate-neutral, smart cities globally. Drawing from mobility, housing, and energy projects across Africa, Latin America, North America, Asia, and Europe, it will showcase how System Demonstrators tackle structural challenges by addressing finance, policy, behavior, infrastructure, and technology. Developed in cooperation with Vinnova, Viable Cities, and UN-Habitat, this approach is currently implemented in cities across Sweden, Brazil, Colombia, Uganda, and the UK.

📍 November 5, 2024, 17:00 – 18:30 EEST: The European Mission on 100 Climate-Neutral and Smart Cities by 2030 – progress, lessons learned and international outreach
The session will measure the progress made under the EU Cities Mission through testimonials from cities, the national level and climate finance institutions. Mission tools currently deployed such as the Climate Cities Contacts (CCC), the Pilot Cities and Twinning Learning Programmes, and the Cities Mission Capital Hub will also be presented via testimonials. Lessons learned from cross-sectoral implementation and multi-level governance will be shared, alongside the international perspective of the global Urban Transitions Mission and its growing Global Innovation Alliance.
