Global Innovation Alliance

The alliance builds on the strengths of the Urban Transitions Mission partnership and thrives on synergies

At the heart of the Urban Transitions Mission lies the Global Innovation Alliance (GIA) , a collaborative platform, which aims to co-create innovative approaches to support the mission’s goal. Established in March 2022, the GIA has rapidly grown into a community of X committed members, all united by a shared ambition: to accelerate net-zero, climate-resilient and people-centered urban transitions worldwide.

More than a network, the GIA is where UTM members, Mission Innovation governments, city partner organisations, private sector leaders, research and innovation clusters, financial institutions, and youth organisations come together to exchange ideas, align efforts and unlock innovation at scale.

The GIA is designed to build on existing initiatives, close identified gaps in capacity or knowledge and co-create practical solutions that cities can scale, replicate and adapt across sectors or geographies.

  • Bring together expertise and skills across sectors and approaches to enhance the climate strategies of cities within the cohort.
  • Inform, engage, and provide resources to the Urban Transitions Mission Centre.
  • ConnectMI Members, organizations, initiatives, and academia during the annual Global Innovation Summit.
  • Support and shape the creation of a modular and replicable urban transition net-zero framework.
  • Connect the UTM with relevant initiatives, programs, and projects addressing the net-zero urban transition.
  • Draw attention to cities’ needs in research and innovation.
  • Connect the UTM with research and innovation opportunities, resources, and funds for implementation.
