About Mission Innovation

The Mission Innovation’s Urban Transitions Mission is part of a global initiative of 23 countries and the European Commission, on behalf of the European Union. Mission Innovation catalyses a decade of action and investment in research, development and demonstration to make clean energy affordable, attractive and accessible for all.

Launched alongside the Paris Agreement in 2015, Mission Innovation (MI) brings together governments, public authorities, corporates, investors and academia to enable widely affordable clean energy globally and achieve the goals of the Paris Agreement. Mission Innovation is the main intergovernmental platform addressing clean energy innovation through action-oriented cooperation. Mission Innovation’s members represent over 90% of global public investments in clean energy innovation and have increased their annual investments by USD$5.8 billion since 2015.

Mission Innovation 2.0 was launched on 2 June 2021 as a global initiative catalysing a decade of action and investment in research, development and demonstration to make clean energy affordable, attractive and accessible for all. This will accelerate progress towards the Paris Agreement goals and pathways to net zero.

OTHER MISSIONS

Mission Innovation is establishing new public-private innovation alliances, called Missions, to accelerate global action towards ambitious clean energy goals. Missions unite countries, corporations, investors, and research institutes to set global objectives and drive rapid innovation.

Goal: To demonstrate that by 2030 power systems in different geographies and climates are able to effectively integrate up to 100% variable renewable energies in their generation mix and maintain a cost-efficient, secure and resilient system.
Goal: For ships capable of running on zero-emission fuels to make up at least 5% of the global deep-sea fleet by 2030,We will crystalize an ambitious alliance between countries.
Goal: The Clean Hydrogen Mission catalyses international collaboration in research and innovation for the development of a global clean hydrogen value chain. By demonstrating commercially viable hydrogen technologies by 2030, we will enable hydrogen to complement electrification and drive deep decarbonization in hard-to-abate sectors.
Goal: To enable Carbon Dioxide Removal technologies to achieve a net reduction of 100 million metric tons of CO2 per year globally by 2030.
Goal: To catalyse the development and demonstration of cost competitive solutions for the efficient decarbonization of hard to abate energy intensive industries worldwide by 2030.
Goal: Develop and demonstrate innovative solutions to accelerate the commercialization of integrated biorefineries, with a target of replacing 10% of fossil-based fuels, chemicals and materials with bio-based alternatives by 2030
