The scale of the required build-out to decarbonize our energy systems is massive requiring changes in energy supply as well as the rapid electrification and decarbonization of end uses globally. While the technology already exists, massive investments need to be mobilized for the deployment of sustainable energy technologies, across all segments.
The ICLEI Daring Cities team and the Urban Transitions Mission (UTM) are pleased to invite you to our upcoming Daring Cities Virtual Forum session on 10 September 2025 at 14:00-15:00 CEST (UTC +2).
This session will explore how local and regional governments can drive climate and energy action through innovative financing approaches such as blended finance — and the challenges cities must overcome in transforming energy supply, improving efficiency, and meeting demand in critical sectors like mobility.
In its latest publication, “Blending finance for net-zero, resilient and inclusive cities,” the UTM outlined how blended finance can unlock the trillions needed for urban climate transitions. Nicola Iezza, Finance & Funding Helpdesk Manager at UTM, will join the discussion, bringing insights from global case studies and the UTM city cohort.
He will be joined by:
- Eduard Puig MacLean, Chief Operating Officer and Co-Founder, GNE Finance
- Jeevan Shinde, Head of Treasury Capital, Signify
- Paolo Ceccherini, Public & Government Affairs Director, Signify
- André da Vila, Officer, Innovative Finance, ICLEI World Secretariat
- Moderator: Nicola Iezza, Urban Transitions Mission Project Manager, Global Covenant of Mayors for Climate & Energy (GCoM)
This conversation follows the in-person dialogue begun at Daring Cities in Bonn in June, and continues the shared commitment to unlocking finance for ambitious, people-centered urban transitions.
